It's no secret that a dated work wardrobe is bad for your mental health. Fact. Mondays are bad already - add in a pair of black pants, a grey sweater and I can't even finish..I want to get back in bed already. How is anyone supposed to believe you have fresh new ideas, that you think outside the box, that you are an up-and-coming one-to-watch if all you ever wear is all beige, all the time. It's an uphill battle not worth climbing. I mean climbing any hill in all beige isn't even good enough my Instastories.
Here's the thing: spring is here and if you're going to update your office attire, there's no time like right now. The sun isn't shining yet but it's gonna happen. Any time now. Still waiting. And with this supposed spring just around the corner will come those blue skies, that sunshine and those gardens in bloom that we've all been waiting for. A few fresh new spring wardrobe pieces are really all you need to refresh your look. Read on for our picks and get ready to feel like you're seriously winning at work. Happy Spring!
SPRING FOR | A top with subtle sheer dets is a must for spring. The key to keeping it profesh? Make sure you keep the silhouette polished and refined so it's appropriate for the office - think long sleeves and a classic crew neck. I mean, sheer black, plus cleavage = boudoir, not boardroom. Oh, and we're loving these earrings too, BTW.
SPRING FOR | Spring (hopefully) means OOO lunches with your boss and post-work patio seshes with your work besties. Don't let bad shades ruin your lewk. We're loving these tortoiseshell cat-eyes from H&M which, BTW, will look boss with a tan trench.
SPRING FOR | A denim jacket is cool and a yellow rain slicker is adorable but if you want to look chic, nothing beats a classic trench. We're loving this drapey trench with cinched sleeves for perfect layers Mon-Fri.
WE LOVE | Tencel Trench, $124, GAP
SPRING FOR | Other than a plastic bag, nothing ruins an outfit faster than an ugly, practical (ewww) laptop bag. You know the one - the black bag that has 500 pockets, is wipeable (double ewww) and probably has some big branded logo like PracticalCase or OfficeMate or FashionKiller on the side. Ladies, you are better than practical. Find a stylin' tote that obviously fits your laptop but doesn't call itself a laptop bag and your outfit will thank you, big time.
SPRING FOR | Does your office do 'casual Fridays'? Cool. You've probably done the jeans. You've probably also graduated to the chambray shirt, right? This spring, why not spring for a chambray pencil skirt, like this ruffled beauty?
WE LOVE | Chambray Pencil Skirt, $63, RW&CO.
SPRING FOR | There are so few occasions for wearing a white dress so we're always looking for reasons to wear them. This dress is absolutely PERF if you work in any kind of creative field like PR, graphic design or marketing. It says 'I know my Monet from my Manet' and, 'Yayoi Kutsama? Oh, I've already been. Twice.'
SPRING FOR | Explore the softer side (and buy new shoes in process) with a pair of suede heels. We're still loving the block heel for Spring '18 but this season, opt for pale pink, lavender or a pretty blue to switch things up.
SPRING FOR | You know those stretchy tank tops you've had since 2015 that you always wear under everything? Might be time for a grown-up upgrade. We're loving the solid camis at RW&CO., perfect for wearing under blazers or peeking out under cropped sweaters. Our suggestion? Might as well pick one up in every colour - you're going to live in these.
WE LOVE | Solid Silky Crepe Cami, $39.90, RW&CO.
SPRING FOR | For so many women, huge statement earrings can feel like a big fashion risk. If you're one of those people, try to step out of your comfort zone (just a wee bit) with a pair of modern floral earrings. These beauties might just be the thing to inspire you on a rainy Monday am.
WE LOVE | Floral Earrings, $12, ALDO
SPRING FOR | With all of spring's loungey pants, bodysuits are the perfect partner to keep your outfit looking polished. We are loving the floral details on this gorgeous suit and would rock it with everything from olive green pants to a black tulle skirt and ankle boots. So fun, right?
WE LOVE | Floral Bodysuit, $39.95, Dynamite
SPRING FOR | Always opt for black and grey bottoms? Hold up. Why? Don't sell yourself short. Fashion challenge of the day: try green. They go with black, white, cream, navy, pink, pale blue...need we go on? We are particularly loving the paperbag waist right now for bringing a work wardrobe right up to date. Don't know about your boss but we'd totally promote you to CFO (Chief Fashion Officer) w these ;)
WE LOVE | Cuffed Paperbag Pant, $63, RW&CO.
